WTF?

For some reason all my Office toolbars have spontaneously reverted to their default configurations. The only thing I did, between having them show up the way I'd heavily customized them, to this reversion, was install an update to Adobe Reader. Why the heck would that matter?

Stupid Microsoft.

Stupid Adobe.

Silent/ignored system update? (Do you have those configured to happen automatically?)

No, all software updates and installs have to get my (password-validated) approval.

I was under the impression--perhaps mistaken--that there are certain kinds of updates that Microsoft rams through because it considers them to address sufficiently high-risk vulnerabilities. What's the 'last modified' date on your Office binary?

The Word and Excel files show last modification on July 8, 2010. Though, of course, it's conceivable that some of the files in the Library might be different.

Same here. Well, the display settings changed to some default theme. This was following some Windows update that did not require a restart. But I turned off the computer while traveling. I don't know if these are related occurrences.

I'm a Mac user, so I don't have Windows updates. :-)

I'm quite certain that the ONLY thing I did, between seeing my customized bars, and the reset, was the Adobe install. I was working on some stuff for the Microecon class, then I closed it, was working in Firefox for a bit, got the notice on the Adobe update when I opened a PDF, ran that updated, and a few minutes later went back into Office... and the toolbars were different. It was maybe 10-15 minutes, and the only software thing that happened was the Adobe update.

(Didn't realize you were a Mac user or I wouldn't have asked the above questions. :P :) )
