OK, let's try: Anyone want to split the cost of HBO?

I guess I'm not getting any responses from friends who currently have HBO, so now I'm wondering if I have any friends who are into Game of Thrones and/or True Blood, and would be down with splitting the cost of a subscription, in exchange for getting to come watch the HD recordings at our place. I'm not really willing to pay $10/mo for it, but $5 would be OK.

Hmm. I suppose in theory I could look for torrents of HD quality recordings, and play them off my laptop, which has digital A/V outputs. I do fully intend to pay for the content eventually, when they release the DVDs. But I still am not entirely comfortable acquiring content by methods that are, technically, illegal. And also, I don't particularly know where one goes looking for high-quality recordings; the last time I looked around the web for video downloads ('00, maybe?), it was clogged with spam and low-quality clips.

You could also just wait til it comes out on DVD and Netflix it...

We fully intend to buy the DVDs of True Blood, and probably GoT as well. (See previous entry; we own S1-S2 of True Blood, and S3 is pre-ordered.) But that means waiting a year, and avoiding spoilers in the meantime.

Hm...interesting proposal. I haven't read the Game of Thrones books, but lots of my friends say they're looking forward to the show, which makes me think I'm missing out on something. (I'm not interested in True Blood). And I don't have HBO. How many months are in a season of GoT?

According to IMDb, the first season is going to run 10 episodes, though I'm not sure whether one or more of them may run longer than 60 minutes. (Each season of TB has been 12 one-hour eps.)
