Avenging Angel

Irony sure can be ironic sometimes...

I just went to see "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised", and was reminded of the spectacle of Karl Rove delivering pious platitudes about how Hugo Chavez should respect democracy. This from the man whose boss, after being "elected" under dubious circumstances, had already started steamrolling opposition to his extreme agenda, and exercised tighter control over his media image than any president in a century. Chavez, on the other hand, was elected by a landslide, and started his own weekly call-in show to take comments from random citizens. Mind you, I think Chavez is naive about economics and global politics -- particularly with regard to the history of Communism, and the nature of Castro's regime -- but his heart basically seems to be in the right place, and he is unquestionably the duly elected president of Venezuela.

In any case, it's a good film, and you should all go see it, if possible. It's running in Berkeley at the Shattuck Cinema through tomorrow night, and I imagine it'll be out on DVD sooner or later.
