Avenging Angel

Ohio Republicans get desperate.

Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell is trying to refuse thousands of new voters the right to cast a ballot in the upcoming election, based on the type of paper they used to apply. Citing an arcane rule that requires voter registration cards to be printed on 80 pound stock paper, Blackwell is threatening to void registrations submitted on lighter weight paper (such as computer-printed forms), demanding that those affected re-apply. There is, of course, no time to reapply, and thousands of voters could be left off the rolls. He is also violating federal law by refusing to accept provisional ballots in most instances.

While a petition may not have a whole lot of effect, it's at least something:

If you know anyone who actually lives in Ohio, please alert them to this situation, and encourage them to contact Ohio Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell and register their displeasure.
