Dem Donkey

Local elections on Nov 6...

I don't think I'm going to do a Pizza and Politics party this fall, both because I lack the time, and because as far as I know the only things on the ballot are local, so we'd be unlikely to have more than 2-3 people voting on any one item. If anyone up in San Mateo County is interested, the Dems up there have made some endorsements.

I think I've figured out who I'm voting for, for School Board (Claude Ezran, whom I've met, and who I liked last time 'round but liked two other people better) and Melissa Baten Caswell. The latter is slightly more tentative. On City Council, I know I'm voting for Pat Burt (currently planning and transportation commissioner). Not sure who else.

Do you know your Assembly district?

If you live in AD 21, 22, 23, or 24 (this covers more or less the southeast half of San Mateo county and the northwest half of Santa Clara county), and you have anything to say to the Democratic Party about what you think it ought to be standing for, the Region 5 meeting of delegates is this coming Saturday, at 9am in Los Altos. This will be the main venue for public input into the platform process. The regional director has explicitly opened up invitation to the public. If you're interested in attending, please visit this page for the location, and to RSVP to the regional director. (RSVPs aren't absolutely necessary, but they're appreciated; that way we know how much coffee and bagels we need for people. :-)

I will be presenting a resolution / possible plank concerning reform of Prop 13.

Can we have the FasTrak people take over the DMV?

I've had a FasTrak in the AurosMobile for a long time. Xta had been wanting a FasTrak pass, and I suggested that rather than dealing with setting up a separate account, she could just get a transponder on my account. I put in a request online on Monday, and today I have the new transponder. Two days. I am officially impressed. When I got a vanity plate from the DMV, it took a month, and they did it wrong the first time, necessitating another visit, another wait in a long line, and another month of waiting for them to make and ship the plate. Whatever FasTrak is doing with their bureaucracy needs to be emulated elsewhere.
